Sealed Cases Set New Highs While Mega Evolution Promos Give Some Back

Eight products punched through all-time highs this week, five vintage holos are sitting a half point off their own records, and a cluster of Mega Evolution promo cards cooled off after a hot run.

KEY POINTS

  • Top 30d gainer: Electrode +194.4% to $70.65
  • Top 30d loser: Zekrom - 066/182 (Cosmos Holo) -93.0% to $0.83
  • Hottest artist: Asako Ito at 11.80x premium
  • New all-time high: Cosmic Eclipse Booster Box at $4148.34

New ceilings

Sealed product had a real week. Cosmic Eclipse Booster Box printed a fresh all-time high at $4148.34, and it wasn't alone. 151 Ultra-Premium Collection Case hit $3449.81, 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box Case reached $1880.75, Black Bolt Booster Bundle Display touched $1446.26, and its counterpart White Flare Booster Bundle Display got to $1343.59. Round it out with Prismatic Evolutions Premium Figure Collection Case at $1305.40, Mega Evolution Sleeved Booster Case at $1205.12, and the Evolving Skies Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box at $1020.00. Eight new highs in one window is a lot of sealed money changing hands at once.

Knocking on the door

Five cards are parked at -0.5% off their own all-time highs, which is close enough to call a watch list. Unified Minds Single Pack Blister [Sudowoodo] sits at $99.49 against a $99.99 ath. Sabrina's Gengar is at $600.87 versus $603.90. Rocket's Scyther is at $85.01 against $85.44. Feraligatr (Delta Species) is at $68.95 versus $69.30. Erika's Clefable is at $81.39 against $81.82. Nothing dramatic, just cards that have quietly climbed back to where they've already been.

The 7 day gainers

Darkrai EX (107 Full Art) led the week, up +87.8% from $420.69 to $789.99 on a depth of 7 listings, which is enough to move but not a deep book. Lugia - 29/115 (Pokemon Rocks America) climbed +75.4% to $127.50 on depth 8. Shining Steelix added +74.7%, landing at $471.66 with 28 listings backing it, the healthiest depth in this group. Lightning Energy (WotC 2002 League Promo) rose +70.0% to $36.10 on depth 8, and Electivire - 54/149 (Cosmos Holo) gained +54.7% to $51.05 on depth 7. Most of these moves are riding thin order books, so treat the percentages as real but the conviction as modest.

The 7 day losers

Miraidon - 082 [Staff] gave back -38.2%, now $17.71 on depth 15, after leading the Mega Evolution promo pack higher recently. Moltres - XY127 (Prerelease) [Staff] fell -36.7% to $158.34 on depth 7. Empoleon - BW56 dropped -36.0% to $11.75, backed by a decent depth of 38. Dracozolt V (Full Art) slid -33.6% to $3.88 but on a depth of 650, so this is a liquid card cooling off, not a thin one. Slowbro - 083 (Pitch Black Stamped) and two more Mega Evolution promo staffers, Bastiodon - 085 [Staff] and Dhelmise - 084 [Staff], all lagged the market this week alongside Unown (Z) and Unown (O), both down roughly a quarter on depth well over 280 listings each. These are reports on where the price landed, not a forecast of where it's headed.

One day spikes

Lunala GX - SM103 jumped +92.4% to $19.99 on depth 29 in a single day. Pikachu from Base Set popped +47.7% to $11.00, and this one has a depth of 3336 listings, which makes it the most liquid mover on the whole sheet this week. Mew V - 113/264 and Empoleon V - 040/163 also spiked, up +32.9% and +22.5% respectively, though depth wasn't reported for either.

Solo variant moves, treat with suspicion

Three cards flagged as solo-variant moves this week: Muk (Team Plasma) up +122.6% to $32.08 on depth 17, Voltorb up +99.8% to $49.95 on depth 5, and Weedle up +99.6% to $22.68 on depth 4. In each case only this one printing moved while its siblings sat still, which usually points to a repricing artifact on a thin book rather than genuine demand. I'd file these under noise until a second printing confirms the move.

30 day gainers and losers

Over the month, Electrode is the headline at +194.4% to $70.65, but it carries the solo-variant flag on a depth of just 4, so read it as one listing repricing itself, not a trend. Manectric - 38/107 (Prerelease) climbed +172.0% to $74.99 without that flag, on depth 5. Several more of the 30 day gainers, including Dark Steelix, Parasect, Ledyba, Primeape (Delta Species), and Mightyena, all carry the same solo-variant tag, so the pattern of thin, isolated reverse holo moves is the story here more than any single card.

On the losing side, Zekrom - 066/182 (Cosmos Holo) cratered -93.0% to $0.83, but with a depth of 545 listings that's a broad, liquid repricing, not a fluke. The whole ME05: Pitch Black promo run took a hit too: Mega Zeraora ex - 098/084 down -76.7%, Dhelmise - 091/084 down -74.6%, and Goldeen - 087/084 down -68.2%, all on deep books in the hundreds of listings. That set's promo cards simply lagged after a hot debut, worth noting for anyone still holding the early hype price.

Artists, hot and cold

Asako Ito is commanding an 11.80x premium across 35 cards, well clear of the pack. Keiko Fukuyama sits at 3.36x on 20 cards, Susumu Maeya at 2.79x on 10, Kazuaki Aihara at 2.17x on 12, and Yuka Morii at 2.07x across a much wider 195 card catalog, which says her premium is broad rather than concentrated in one chase card. On the cold end, "Big Mama" Tagawa is trading at just 0.26x across 16 cards, Milky Isobe at 0.27x on 22, and Kazuo Yazawa at 0.50x on 9. The gap between the top and bottom of this list is enormous and worth remembering next time an artist name gets thrown around as a reason to pay up.

Scoreboard, no spin

Since we publish these calls and grade them, here's where the record stands. The monthly mint alert signal hits 21% of the time at a 7 day horizon across 85 calls, averaging +1.9%. The 7 day gainer signal hits 22% at 7 days across 86 calls for a flat +0.1% average, but stretched to 30 days it hits 46% across 26 calls for +5.1%, so the gainers this week may need a month to prove out, not a week. The 7 day loser signal actually performs best short term, hitting 50% at 7 days across 106 calls for -8.6% average, though at 30 days that flips to 37% hit rate and a +5.2% average return, meaning a chunk of this week's losers have historically bounced by then. Make of that what you will.
